IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS

Dan Baird & Homemade Sin's show in Copenhagen was a band at the top of their game and quite an extraordinairy experience - even for them

DAN BAIRD & HOMEMADE SIN, Amager Bio, november 10th

So there I was at the beginning of a quiet Monday evening, looking forward to the rest of it. Knowing that said evening would not be quiet much longer. That in a short while there'd be no way around grabbing on to the trusted airguitar and even moving the old wooden leg for a bit. It has got to be that way when you're witnessing what Bruce Springsteen once dubbed "the power and the majesty of rock and roll."

When these guys come roaring out of the starting gate, we're talking primordial force, we're talking the meaning of life and a much needed these days loving hommage to decency. Yeah, pure rock'n'roll is actually able to convey such feelings - even if it doesn't happen often enough.

If one was linguistically challenged one could say that this kicked ass to a monumental degree. Or you could just - smiling through tears of joy - note that this quite simply is exactly how it always should be done. In other words ladies and gentlemen: I give you Dan Baird & Homemade Sin at Amager Bio in Copenhagen. Operating right where southern rock crashes into AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and Chuck Berry at some rowdy roadhouse in Tennessee, this band is simply one of the best traditional rock'n'roll bands on the planet today - criminally overlooked as they unfortunately are. I've seen them numerous times and I guarantee you that this was no fluke. As soon as former Georgia Satellites frontman Dan Baird, bassplayer Micke Nilsson, drummer Mauro Magellan and the quintessential rock'n'roll guitarist - no less - Warner E. Hodges hit the boards you won't get an experience in the pure joy of playing music more convincing than what these guys deliver. And they deliver same with such love for said music and with such abandon and surplus of energy that it really does defy description.

CORNUCOPIA
Before this concert I was in a state of desperation "thanks" to a certain DMA show (The Danish Grammy, ed.) Saturday night. Really wondering whether the collective musical IQ in this country is no bigger than the average pygmee's shoenumber. If that's the case a lot more than the 500 at Amager Bio should've been there to stimulate their musical intellect. From "Little Darling" and through a couple hours plus, the fifth instrument on stage - the cornucopia - presented us with great stuff like "Myth Of Love", "I Love You Period", "Keep Your Hands To Yourself", "Don't Pass Me By" (Beatles), "Proud Mary" (CCR), "Mighty Quinn" (Dylan) and the playful medley of "Sheila" and "Do You Wanna Dance" - everything parading an affection for music for the sake of it that - even for thesse guys - was in a league of its' own as both the playing and love of the classic chords go. There really is no sensible argument for not mentioning this band in the same breath as The Stones, AC/DC and ZZ Top. Those guys really are who you'd have do mention describing Dan Baird & Homemade Sin.

In other words: It doesn't get better than this.
